A few weeks ago, CM Punk delivered a kick to Wade Barrett that sent him sailing off of a steel cage wall, cost him a shot at the WWE Title, and effectively gave him the boot from his own stable. This is a video of just that, dubbed over with the audio of Mufasa’s death from Disney’s The Lion King.

This is relevant today for a couple of reason:
- This event led to the creation of Corre, who are essentially Smackdown’s version of the Nexus, which is to say they’re a bunch of bullies who use their numbers to get what they want. In an inter-brand rivalry among heels, Wade Barrett’s Corre is still feuding with CM Punk’s Nexus.
- The mash-up of CM Punk’s betrayal and Scar’s villainous turn is hilarious, and the inclusion of “Lion Heart” Chris Jericho as Simba makes it a Y2J hat-trick for this blog today.
- Wade Barrett and CM Punk will be appearing as tag team partners on this Friday’s Smackdown.
I’d like to repeat point three. Wade Barrett and CM Punk will be appearing as tag team partners on this Friday’s Smackdown. The advertised main event is a six-on-six match featuring the heels from both elimination chamber matches against the faces. Since Punk and Barrett are obviously both heels, they find themselves as teammates. The lack of continuity in WWE booking here is upsetting. It was less than two months ago that Punk kicked Barrett into the Wildebeest stampede, and since then their annimosity has been kept hot with a brawl at the Royal Rumble. So why kill the angle now? I’d be pleasantly surprised if WWE acknowledges their differences tomorrow night, but given the “all heels are friends and the enemy of all faces” formula that McMahon’s product usually follows, I wouldn’t say it’s likely.
