Monday, Edge dropped a bombshell on the wrestling community when he announced his abrupt retirement from in-ring competition. Tonight, the Rated-R Superstar will be on hand at Smackdown to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship and issue a final farewell to the WWE Universe. Meanwhile, the rest of Friday Night Smackdown will be picking up the pieces left in the wake of Edge’s departure.
A new #1 contender will be crowned in Smackdown’s main event, a 20-man battle royal. The winner will advance to Extreme Rules to take on Alberto Del Rio in a ladder match for the vacant World Title. Also on tonight’s show, LayCool will begin couples therapy due to their relationship being exceptionally stressed lately. Layla will have a particularly busy night, because in addition to her therapy session, she’ll be stepping in the ring to oppose Kelly Kelly. The Corre’s Ezekiel Jackson will go head-to-head with former IC Champ Kofi Kingston, and Rey Mysterio will clash with “The Chosen One” Drew McIntyre. Lastly, the extraordinary Cody Rhodes has some words to share with us tonight, and I’m confident he’ll continue to be a highspot on Friday nights.
