On March 9, 1996, Extreme Championship Wrestling produced a supercard aptly titled the Big Ass Extreme Bash.  The show was headlined by the Gangstas taking on Sandman & Too Cold Scorpio and The Headhunters in a three-way dance.  Also on the show, Rey Mysterio (back when spelt his name Misterio, wore tights, and was still good) wrestled Juventud Guerrera in a 2-out-of-3 falls match, the final appearence either man would make in ECW before departing for the greener pastures of World Championship Wrestling.  Here are some highlights from the fantastic match, which I recommend you mute to avoid the awful song that’s dubbed over them.

Unlike most of today’s supercards, Big Ass Extreme Bash was not a pay-per-view event, although it was certainly the quality of one.  On the show that night in Philadelphia, ECW Champion Raven faced “The Franchise” Shane Douglass, and Chris Jericho went toe-to-toe with “The Human Suplex Machine” Taz.  Rey and Juvy weren’t the only stars ECW lost that night, as Mick Foley wrestled his last match before leaving the Land of Extreme to work for Vince McMahon’s Federation.  In his final match, Foley wrestled Mikey Whipreck in what is now an ECW classic.  Losing three stars of that caliber in one night had to be rough on the Philly-based organization, but if it was any consolation, Brian Pillman made his ECW debut that night.
