The combatants for both the Raw (top) and Smackdown (bottom) Elmination Chamber matches this Sunday

So far, there have been just four matches announced for this Sunday’s Elimination Chamber Pay-Per-View.  The Miz will defend his WWE Championship against Jerry “The King” Lawler with the winner advancing to WrestleMania to face the winner of the Raw chamber match.  Conversely, the Smackdown chamber match will actually decide the fate of the World Championship.  The winner of that match will carry the title into WrestleMania and defend it against Alberto Del Rio, who will be wrestling Kofi Kingston this Sunday.  Some speculation as to how these matches might shake down and a look at some potential additions to the card after the jump.

  • First and foremost, Miz needs to beat Jerry Lawer.  It’s the WWE and “anything can happen,” but giving the strap to The King is a preposterous idea.  I fully expect Michael Cole to involve himself, probably creating an opportunity for Miz to finish Lawler off.  It is vital that Miz looks strong here.
  • Alberto Del Rio will surely defeat Kofi Kingston.  Del Rio will be in a WrestleMania main event this year, and WWE will want him to look like a strong contender heading into it.  Having him lose to Kofi would kill his momentum before his World Title match, and that’s the last thing anybody wants.  I expect it to be a long, good match, and Del Rio should be given the clean victory.
  • Cena is the odds on favorite to win the Raw chamber match.  They’ve been planting the seeds for a confrontation between he and Miz at WrestleMania, and a win in the chamber will make it official.  The only way anything else seems like a possibility is if there are plans to have Cena wrestle The Rock on the year’s grandest stage, although this is a long shot at best.  If, somehow, Vince manages to pull off the booking of that dream match, I’d expect Morrison to go over here and get the WrestleMania title match instead.  I would be shocked if anybody other than Cena won though.
  • In actuality, Edge will probably win this match.  Unless WWE has something special up their sleeve, I can’t really see anyone else taking home the gold this weekend.  However, I am about to spew some pure fanboy booking on what I’d like to see.  I kind of expect the participants in the match to be shifted around before showtime on Sunday, depending on what transpires on tonight’s Smackdown.  I’d really like to see Ziggler removed from the match as punishment for his part in the attack on Teddy Long (an assumption on my part), and replaced by a returning Christian.  The relationship between Edge and Christian would break down during the chamber, perhaps after Edge eliminates his former partner, and enraged by this, Christian vicisously attacks his blood brother.  This could leave the door open for Rey Mysterio to capitalize on the assault and claim the victory and the World Title.  Then, at WrestleMania, we have a World Title match between Mysterio and Del Rio, while Edge would meet Christian in a grudge match.  Strictly fanboy booking, of course.  Edge will probably win the chamber match, and Christian probably won’t be in it.

With just four matches, the card is somewhat bare.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Tag Title match added to the show featuring Santino & Kozlov and members of the Corre or Nexus or both.  Other possibilities include a Divas Championship match, or a battle between The Big Show and Ezekiel Jackson.
