Tonight’s Smackdown will see the Edge-Dolph Zigger-Vickie Guerrero saga continue to unfold when Edge defends his World Heavyweight Title against Ziggler for the third time in a month. This time, Vickie Guerrero will serve as the special guest referee, stacking the deck against the Rated R Superstar once again. While Edge is certainly favored to retain his title, it’s possible that some controversy will be created surrounding the belt heading into the Elimination Chamber.
Topping last week’s solid show, Smackdown will feature a whopping seven matches tonight. In addition to the World Title match, WWE Intercontinental Champion Kofi Kingston will be in action when he takes on the #1 contender to the World Title, 2011 Royal Rumble Winner Alberto Del Rio. I originally speculated that this match would be contested at the Elmination Chamber, but instead we’ll be treated to the bout on free TV. In a real David Vs Goliath scenerio, Rey Mysterio will go one-on-one with Wade Barrett. Barrett’s partner in the Corre Justin Gabriel will also be competing, grappling with one half of the WWE Unified Tag Team Champions, Vladimir Kozlov. Kane is scheduled to take on JTG in what I have to believe will be a squash match, and WWE Diva’s Champion Eve Torres will tangle with Layla. Michelle McCool will surely be at ringside for this one, so expect to see some continued dissension in the ranks of LayCool. Finally, Vince McMahon’s Chosen One, Drew McIntyre, will go head-to-head with frequent wellness policy violator Chris Masters. All in all, Smackdown is looking like it will be a very watchable, action-packed show tonight.
