If you were hoping that tonight we might see this picture one more time, Edge & Christian wearing the WWE Tag Team Titles, you’re in for a disappointment. It’s not because they lose to the Corre – nay – they never fight them. Sometime between when the Smackdown main event was announced during Raw and when the show was taped on Tuesday, the idea to have Edge & Christian challenge for the World Tag Team Titles was abandoned. I’m sure I’m not the only one disappointed. Softening the blow, however, is that Smackdown will be presenting a whopping eight matches on tonight’s show, one of them to be contested in a steel cage.
In the main event, Christian will go one-on-one with the man who put him on the shelf months ago, #1 contender Alberto Del Rio, and it’ll be inside the confines of a cage. Christian’s long time partner Edge will be in action tonight against Del Rio’s bodyguard, Brodus Clay. Despite the Corre not defending the Tag Titles against Edge & Christian, they will put their belts on the line, only it will be against Kane & The Big Show. Although this pairing may seem odd now, the duo have worn the tag belts together before. WrestleMania opponents Cody Rhodes and Rey Mysterio will both be wrestling singles matches, against Trent Baretta and Ted Dibiase respectively. “The Masterpiece” Chris Masters will go head-to-head with “The All American American” Jack Swagger, and Layla will tangle with Kelly Kelly. Rounding out the card will be Kofi Kingston taking on the new United States Champion, Sheamus.
Its atrocious that this would be announced and then not happen…I was so confused when I read the spoilers.
