The most established star at Chikara's King of Trios will be wrestling's biggest underdog.

Next month, Sean Waltman will be returning to the gimmick that made him a star.  At CHIKARA’s King of Trios weekend, running April 15-17 at the former ECW arena in Philadelphia, Waltman will be appearing as The 1-2-3 Kid.

This will mark the first time that Waltman has wrestled under this moniker in 15 years.  When he departed the WWE in 1996, the gimmick was thought dead, and until now, it was.  Since that time, he’s competed in WCW as nWo member Syxx, returned to WWE and joined D-Generation X as X-Pac, and most recently wrestled in TNA under his real name.  A perennial underdog, The 1-2-3 Kid was, for my money, the most likeable of his characters.

When he steps into the South Philly arena next month, The Kid will captain a three-man team in CHIKARA’s annual King of Trios tournament.  His team, also including fellow Minnesotans Arik Cannon and Darin Corbin, will be aptly titled Team Minnesota.  One would think that a world-traveled superstar such as Waltman would hold an advantage entering such a tournament, but as far as I’m concerned, the 1-2-3 Kid will always be that loveable underdog.  Team Minnesota’s first round opponents have yet to be named, but whoever they are, they’d best beware the 1-2-3 Kick.
