Every Tuesday, we take a look at an outlandish character from wrestling’s days gone by. Sometimes laughable, sometimes revolting, but always preposterous, they’re part of what makes pro rasslin’ so great. Ranging from slightly peculiar to downright ludicrous, these are the wrestlers that time has rightly forgotten.
There were some aspects of World Championship Wrestling, such as their rich cruiserweight division, that make it difficult to understand why the company collapsed. And then there’s the KISS Demon, who makes the causes for WCW’s demise crystal clear. The Demon character was developed by Eric Bischoff, who struck a deal with the rock band KISS to introduce a wrestler based on their likeness. As part of the deal, it was promised that this wrestler would not only main event a pay-per-view, but would also form a stable with other KISS-themed grapplers. Luckily for the fans, the “main event” ended up being a match against The Wall in the middle of a SuperBrawl card and the stable never took shape. This gimmick was bad. So bad, in fact, that Brian Adams, who was the original choice to portray the character, refused to do so. Those honors eventually went to Dale Torborg, who was rightfully condemned to jobbing for the rest of his professional career. The Demon is best remembered for being part of a stable with the Insane Clown Posse and for marrying WCW’s horrendous Chyna ripoff, Asya. When Torborg was done in WCW, he moved onto TNA, where he joined forces with A.J. Pierzynski. Make no mistake; the KISS Demon’s career was one of pure, unadulterated awfulness.
