As I’m sure many of you are aware, Paul Heyman went on record last week via Twitter saying that he thinks CM Punk is one of the best performer in the business today. Obviously, I agree with his sentiment. I’m not the only one, either. Stone Cold Steve Austin was quick to voice his support of the Straight Edge Superstar as well, noting on his Twitter that he agreed with Heyman’s statement.
After Punk’s tribute to the Macho Man this Monday on Raw, I feel like everyone affiliated with wrestling in any capacity should be saying things like this. Punk has always been the man, and yet somehow, he manages to impress more and more every week. I’m almost at a loss for words to describe my enjoyment of him; he’s just so cool. Needless to say, I’ve been on a Punk kick since Monday, watching some old DVDs and reminiscing about some of his more memorable moments. I think it’s only right that I share this…

Punk’s had some truly fantastic moments in the WWE already. Singing happy birthday to Rey Mysterio’s daughter along with his performances in the 2010 Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber matches are among them, as is his recent homage to Randy Savage. Still, his matches with Samoa Joe in Ring of Honor remain a high water mark for his work. Both Punk and Joe enjoyed some of their best matches to date against each other over the course of 2004, and if you’re not familiar with the series, then I recommend you take the Pepsi Plunge and invest in a couple of DVDs. Until then, enjoy this video package of the best wrestler in the world today’s early work.
The fact that for over a year Punk has been carrying stale stables that really serve his character no purpose is sad. I would love CM Punk to finally get on with his solo main event career without having to carry guys that would not have a job if it weren’t for the stables they were in.
I couldn’t agree more, man. Punk is so ridiculously entertaining, and they’re squandering his talents with the New Nexus. With all of the rumors about him leaving the company, I wonder if he’ll ever be given the chance to shine to his true potential.
