TNA Impact is downright painful to watch sometimes all of the time. Sure, they’ve got some good wrestlers, but their story telling is pitiful. The worst part about it is that they’re unaware of how awful their writing is. A company like Ring of Honor doesn’t have fantastic storylines driving it, and that’s fine, because they don’t dedicate 3/4 of their shows to drama on the microphone. Conversely, TNA, whose stories are about as bad as any to ever transpire in a wrestling ring, dedicate the bulk of their airtime to pushing their nonsensical feuds and segments down the viewers’ throats.
Although this video glorifies the early days of Total Nonstop Action probably a little more than I’d be comfortable justifying, it also does a fine job at illustrating just how much more ridiculous things have gotten since the arrival of Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff. I will never understand the faith put into Hulk Hogan’s booking abilities – the man drove the popularity of wrestling in the 1980s by waving a flag and slamming a giant, he made a great heel turn in the 90s, and he’s done little since. None of his success relates to his backstage “work ethic” and he certainly has never helped a company creatively.
And now, on top of all of the trash he’s already helped put on TNA programming, it looks like he’s going to step back into the ring with Sting sometime in the near future. The man who put wrestling on the map 25 years ago doesn’t seem like he’s going to be content until he drives another company into the ground. Grow up, Hogan, and realize it’s over.
