I usually don’t like posting videos from current WWE programing here because so much of Raw & Smackdown every is dedicated to replaying highlights from recent shows. Edge’s retirement this Monday night, though, is a special instance. I assume you’ve all seen it by now, but incase any of you haven’t, here it is in its entirety. Have the tissues ready.

And with that, the Hall of Fame career of Edge comes to a close. Earlier today, Frank fondly remembered Edge as one of his all-time favorite wrestlers, a sentiment that I share completely. It’s going to take all of my restraint not to turn this blog into one big fan service to Edge during the next week, and I hope that you’ll bear with me if it starts to look that way. The man is one of the best to ever lace them up, and he’s easily one of my personally favorites. One of the first big events that I ever attended live was WrestleMania XV, a few months after Edge’s debut. After the Undertaker’s Hell in a Cell match with the Big Bossman, the Brood were lowered from the ceiling to drop a noose into the ring. After tearing the cell open and letting the rope down, the Brood reattached their harness to be lifted back into the rafters. There was a problem with Edge’s apparatus that was apparent to the live audience, and as a result, he was suspended above the cell for a little longer than he was intended to be. I remember thinking that this was the guy’s first WrestleMania appearance, and imagined how nervous I would be in his situation if such a problem arose. Edge was all smiles though, and kept his composure for the duration of his extended dangle above the cell. From that moment forward, I’ve been pulling for that toothy Canadian. Edge is, without doubt, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and possibly the greatest of our generation. I’ll miss him.
Out of Edge’s retirement I feel very thankful. Edge has slowed down recently in the ring, but still gives it everything he has ( See his dive to the outside of the ring from Wrestlemania ). I cringe to think about what would have happened during the Extreme Rules ladder match if this diagnosis was still not made. I am thankful that the last memory of Edge’s active career is a pretty good match where he retained the title at WrestleMania and not a memory of him being stretchered out of the ring in a tragic ending.
