The Diva of Divas

WrestleMania weekend is shaping up to be pretty big as far as the Divas are concerned.  At the top, you have the original Diva, Sunny, being inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame.  But what I want to focus in on today is the return of the ultimate Diva, Trish Stratus.

The WWE defines their Divas as being smart, sexy, and powerful…whatever that means.  But essentially, the Divas are supposed to be hot and athletic.  Very rarely do those two things come together.  For example, lets look at the ones that have been on the cover of Playboy:  Sable, Chyna, Torrie Wilson, Christy Hemme, Candace Michelle, Ashley, Maria.  With the exception of Chyna (cause she is a dude) none of these chicks exactly set the world on fire as far as their wrestling talent is concerned.  Now, lets take a look at some of those who had actual wrestling talent:  Trish Stratus, Mickie James, Lita, Beth Phoenix, Molly Holly, Michelle McCool…all of whom are beautiful in their own right.  But in combining both wrestling ability and looks, Trish is essentially the ultimate Diva.

There hasn’t been a girl with that combination of skill and looks in the history of the WWE, and there may never be again.  But it wasn’t an easy road for Trish.  When she first came to the WWE, she was just another hot manager, and also a terrible wrestler.  I can remember a time when her matches were hard to watch…well, her actual in-ring work was hard to watch.  As it turns out, Trish was a natural, and she picked up wrestling quickly and became one of the best in the world.  She’s kind of like the female Kurt Angle.

Two of the best

Aside from being the best female wrestler to step into the ring, she’s easily one of the hottest women I’ve ever laid eyes on.  Before she came to the WWE, she was a fitness model, and did a lot of modeling afterwards, especially for the WWE.

When I heard Trish was coming back, I started to get excited…..VERY excited.  I was actually hoping the WWE would bring back Lita so the two of them could team up to take out LayCool, who for whatever reason, I don’t really care for.  But instead, they threw her in a match with Snooki.  Honestly, Mania is looking like a great card so far, but I would rather see Morrison vs. Ziggler and Trish/Lita vs. LayCool in two separate matches.  I wont get picky though.

Bottom line, I’m happy to see Trish back.  She’s clearly my favorite Diva in a wrestling capacity, and other than Mickie James, there’s no one that comes close to matching her combination of beauty and in-ring skills.  Recently, the WWE signed Australian female Tenille Tayla as their newest female wrestler.  Tenille clearly has the goods as far as looks go, and I’m very interested to see what she can do in the ring.  It will take a lot for her to follow in the footsteps of Trish and Mickie.

I didn’t even mention the Knockouts in this column, because aside from Mickie and Victoria (former Divas) none of them have an inkling of wrestling skill.  They are definitely hot, especially Velvet Sky and SoCal Val, but other than looks, they are useless, especially since Taylor Wilde left.  The Knockouts are a non factor here.

So in closing, welcome back Trish.  The greatest female wrestler of all time.  Thanks for bringing this back…
