So there’s a new promotion launching, and according to its official web site, it’s going to be on Pay-Per-View at some point this calendar year. The owner of the Urban Wrestling Federation is the former Managing Director for the original ECW, and it sounds like he’d like to recreate some of the magic that the Philly-based organization captured over a decade ago. Unfortunately, what he wants and what he’s capable of doing are two different things, and if this video is any indication, I have my doubts about his ability to produce a quality product. What he’s saying sounds good, but things take a turn around the 1:11 mark when we meet Uncle Murder.
I’ve never been crazy about emphasis being put on popular music during wrestling shows, and for good reason. Master P’s No Limit Soldiers were a flop. The KISS Demon was an abomination. Kid Rock’s full-length concert at WrestleMania XXV was blasphemous to the spirit of the event. Why should I believe that stables led by commercial rappers will be any different?
And look, I know this isn’t completely the promoter’s fault, it’s probably just a shoddy job by the editing team and difficulties due to copyrights, but why are the clips at the start of this video not even from the real ECW? Moreover, why do they feature wrestlers who never appeared in ECW? K-Kwik? Rodney Mack? We kidding?
